Scottsdale was originally inhabited by the Hohokam Indians before the Anglo Americans discovered it in 1868. In 1888 Winfield Scott bought a 640 acre parcel of land where Scottsdale is now located. Scottsdale was incorporated as a city in 1951. As of 2007 Scottsdale has grown to nearly a quarter of a million people.

North Scottsdale is the area of growth and contains the most new construction projects including homes. Some of the most expensive homes in the country can be found in North Scottsdale.

In Scottsdale the primary industry is tourism. Scottsdale’s tourism industry accounts for a large percentage of Scottsdale’s workforce. It’s estimated that 35% to 40% of Scottsdale’s population works in tourism.

More than 70 resorts and spas call Scottsdale their home. Scottsdale holds the distinction of having the most resort spas per capita of residents of any other city in the United States. Scottsdale is known as a national destination when it comes to relaxation and being pampered.
